Why Ram Navami is Celebrated and How?

Ram Navami is one of the most significant Hindu festivals, marking the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It falls on the ninth day (Navami) of Chaitra month in the Hindu lunar calendar, usually in March or April.

Lord Rama, the embodiment of dharma (righteousness), courage, and devotion, was born to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya of Ayodhya. The festival is observed with grand poojas, bhajans, processions, and Ram Katha recitals across India.

The Story Behind Ram Navami

According to Hindu scriptures, the Ramayana narrates the story of Lord Rama, born in Treta Yuga to establish righteousness and defeat evil.

  • King Dasharatha of Ayodhya, despite having three queens, had no heir to the throne. After performing the Putrakameshti Yagna, Lord Vishnu was pleased and granted him four divine sons—Rama, Lakshmana, Bharata, and Shatrughna.
  • Lord Rama, born to Queen Kaushalya, was the reincarnation of Vishnu, destined to destroy the demon king Ravana and establish dharma.

Ram Navami symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and reminds us to walk the path of truth and virtue.
